ENGINEER. CO-FOUNDER. CURIOUS HUMAN.

Ziyad
Diab.

Head of Engineering at OMRIA.
Co-founder of Ascelia & Alpine Valley.

A few places.
A lot of possibility.

01 / THE FIRST LANGUAGE IS CURIOSITY

Vienna.
First bearings.

Fourteen years of bilingual French education. More than one way to see the same thing.

English and German at home in my head; French woven through school. A Vienna beginning that made switching perspectives feel natural.

From class representative to student union president, I learnt that bringing people along matters just as much as having an idea.

02 / ZÜRICH · SEPTEMBER 2021 — MARCH 2025

A different
scale of thinking.

ETH Zürich.
BSc Computer Science.

A new city. Harder questions. Learning to look beneath the surface, make sense of complexity, and build something that holds up.

THE BACHELOR THESIS

Exploring wearables and nearables data from a longitudinal study in a Japanese nursing home. Computer science, with human lives at the centre.

The study was in Japan; this chapter of my life was in Zürich.

03 / BERLIN · BUILDING IN THE REAL WORLD

Ideas need
good engineering.

Head of Engineering, OMRIA.

Healthcare software asks for more than a clever demo. It asks for care in the details: how a product works, how a team builds, and how technology becomes useful.

I joined in March 2025 as an AI product consultant and developer, and became Head of Engineering in September 2025. Research into products; ambition into systems.

THE STORY BRANCHES HERE

OMRIA continues alongside my ventures in Austria. These are parallel paths, not a series of departures.

04 / AUSTRIA · CO-FOUNDER & CTO · May 2026 — present

ASCELIA.

Start with the work.
Then bring in the AI.

AI deployment and process discovery. Understanding how work actually happens before deciding where technology belongs.

As co-founder and CTO, I’m interested in the distance between an impressive prototype and something a team can use. The work is in that distance.

A PARALLEL THREAD

Building Ascelia alongside OMRIA and Alpine Valley. Different settings; the same instinct to turn possibility into practice.

The model is an abstract process study: separate paths finding a working connection.

05 / AUSTRIA · CO-FOUNDER · SEPTEMBER 2025 — PRESENT

Room for
the next idea.

Alpine Valley.
A residency, not a pitch deck.

A nonprofit startup residency at Schloss Drosendorf. Six weeks together, with the room to build and people to build alongside.

6 WEEKS0 EQUITY0 FEES

Our inaugural cohort took place in May–June 2026. A courtyard full of possibility, and a very real beginning.

06 / NOT EVERYTHING NEEDS A ROADMAP

Also found
elsewhere.

On a football pitch.
At a tennis court.
Somewhere with a guitar.

Football captain, marathon finisher, enthusiastic cook. I like the kind of learning that happens away from a screen, too.

This atlas isn’t a finished map. Just a few places and people that have changed the way I think.
